Melissa Utomo

Melissa Utomo creates front-end code for the E Source website and tools while assisting with design and user testing. Prior to web development, Melissa was a technical project manager in the healthcare IT industry, where she traveled 90% of the year helping clinicians implement their electronic medical records. Melissa holds a BS in information systems from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Karen Young

Karen Young is a Content Manager who works with experts and analysts to make their reports look and sound good. She is passionate about making complex ideas accessible to everyone and might be slightly obsessed with hyphens. Karen has a BA in Journalism from Indiana University and a BS in Technical Communications from Metropolitan State University.

Sarah Thompson

Sarah Thompson has been working as a technical writer and editor for more than 20 years. Her first role, writing user guides for database products, led to content management work on E Source research reports. In her time at E Source, she’s worked with every research team, but her enthusiasm for technology brought her to spend the most time with the technology research and software products teams.

Lisa Markus

Lisa Markus has more than 20 years of management consulting experience. Her expertise is in change management, diversity, equity, inclusion, customer experience, and employee engagement. Lisa’s work has helped businesses increase their triple bottom line and bridge the opportunity gap in retirement, financial, food, and energy security.

Jeff Stoermer

As a marketing operations specialist at E Source, Jeff Stoermer works on lead-generation campaigns, social media, public-facing content, and automation. Jeff has eight years of marketing experience in a variety of industries, including loyalty marketing, retail customer experience, publishing, and insurance. Jeff holds a BA in business administration from the University of Cincinnati with a focus on marketing.

Mary Sullivan

As a marketing operations specialist at E Source, Mary Sullivan is responsible for member engagement. Mary works on implementing and evaluating the success of campaigns, along with communicating, automating, and managing member-facing online events. Mary holds a BA in marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Shelby Kuenzli

Shelby Kuenzli specializes in helping utilities use data and customer-centric messaging to communicate their brand and marketing initiatives. Her expertise is in social media and digital marketing, brand awareness, and environmental communications. Prior to working at E Source, Shelby led the marketing and communications initiatives for food-waste and energy-efficiency programs with an environmental nonprofit in Massachusetts. She holds a BS in life sciences communication and in zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Brysen Daughton

Brysen Daughton researches emerging technologies and utility programs on the Customer Energy Solutions team. Brysen started as an intern at E Source, forecasting clean energy technology, and researching best‑in‑class demand‑side management programs. Brysen has two degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder: a master’s degree in renewable and sustainable energy, and an undergraduate degree in ecology and evolutionary biology.

Steven Day

Steven Day researches distributed energy resources, specifically electric vehicles and solar energy. Before joining E Source, he worked for a wind engineering firm, where he focused on business development, and for a renewable-energy advocacy group, where he promoted solar projects at the local level. Steve holds a masters degree in political science from Colorado State University and he has a passion for politics and for promoting the protection and conservation of the environment.

Amy Schmidt

Amy Schmidt researches small and midsize business energy-efficiency programs and helps maintain E Source DSMdat, a database of energy-efficiency and demand-side management (DSM) initiatives in the US and Canada. Before she joined E Source, the Universities Council on Water Resources published her thesis on how utilities set water prices. Amy received a BA in environmental economics from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
